13 Articles Of Faith Mormon

How many people here would be scared of having a Mormon in the white house, and why?
It is true that there may be theological differences that exist between Mormons and other churches, but….. Mormons running aren’t running for Bishop, Rabbi, Pope, Minister, Imam, or Pastor. They would be running for President.
Mormons follow government laws. The 12th article of faith (there are 13, written by Joseph Smith himself) states “We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.” I think that “obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law” counts as folling the constitution.
Following the constitution.
tickd, there are Mormon Democrats, like Harry Reed, I was talking about Mormons in general, not just Republicans.
I would not choose to, or choose not to, vote for someone solely based on whether he/she was a Mormon. However, if were down to two people who were alike on all the other issues that are important to me than I suppose it could be a tie breaking criterion.
If that were the case, and one was a devout Mormon and the other an atheist, I would choose the Mormon. If one was a devout Mormon and one was a devout Evangelical Christian more similar to my theological view, I would vote for the Evangelical. However if one was a devote Mormon and one was only a nominal Evangelical, I would probably vote for the devout Mormon.
All that being said, even though I consider myself a devout Christian, there are probably many other things that would catch my vote before that criterion became an issue. For example, if a devout Evangelical and an atheist were running, and the atheist had a sound foreign policy and fiscal economic plan, but the Evangelical did not (sorry Huckabee), I would probably vote for the atheist even though I think his/her theological view is ridiculous.
“Render unto Ceaser those things that are Ceasers and unto God those things that are God’s.” I am not a theonymist. I choose the president to run the country, not the Church. God is quite capable of using a crooked stick to promote the well being of His people. That’s good news because it means I might be useful to Him even as I am.

Articles of Faith: (An exact photomechanical reproduction of the first edition) $25.50 When the editor of the Chicago Democrat asked Joseph Smith about Mormonism in 1842, the church founder responded with a short history and a list of doctrinal statements identifying the basic tenets of the faith. This short list became known as the Articles of Faith. In 1899 James Talmage published his ground-breaking treatise that bore the same nameĀa book that has been a standard of Mormon thoug… |
